More Women Needed

Posted by Joel on April 16, 2015

Women of Kingston! Local 613 try-outs are going to be a great opportunity for any of you who are looking to develop your ultimate skills and strategies in a more competitive environment. You don't need to have a lot of experience, just a drive to play a little harder and learn more about the game. As part of the try-outs we're hoping to have enough women to enter a second team into the Toronto Ultimate Festival (TUF) on May 9/10 ( we just need a few more ladies to sign-up!) - so even if your'e unsure about a whole season of competitive ultimate, we encourage you to come to try-outs, join us at TUF and see if Local 613 is the right fit for you!

Spring League 2015

Update

Posted by Joel on April 4, 2015

I received an email from Queen's and the turf fields will not be ready for use on Wednesday, April 8th. Unfortunately, this means we will have to push back the start of the league to April 15th.

To balance out the shortened season, the league is going to run with 8 teams of 12-13 players per team instead of 6 teams with 16-17 per team. This will mean that you'll get more playing time each game. There will be two time slots: 6-7:25 and 7:35-9pm (games are hard time capped - see rules page for further explanation).

I hope to have team rosters and the schedule sorted out soon and will post an update when they are done.

Local 613 Tryouts

Posted by Joel on March 24, 2015

Local 613, a co-ed Ultimate touring team, is holding open tryouts for the team this year. Our goal is to carry around 40 players with a core team and a development team. Tryouts for the team will take place on April 21 and 28 at Miklas-McCarney turf field at West Campus at 6:30pm, and May 5 at Nixon field at 7pm. We will then enter two teams into the Toronto Ultimate Festival on May 9-10 and use this tournament to make final decisions about the team roster.

We are very interested in building a solid foundation for high level ultimate players in Kingston. Our goal is to run practices in such a way as to foster development of new players (or experienced players looking to take their game to the next level) and integrate them with the experienced players on the team. In doing so we hope to build a system that will keep Kingston competitive on the national ultimate scene for years to come.

The expectations for those who do make the team would be to attend practices throughout the summer on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm and to partake in tournaments throughout the summer. Below is a list of tournaments we are hoping to participate in:
Toronto Ultimate Festival 2015 Mixed Division
Date: May 9 - 10, 2015
Location: Toronto

Comedy of Errors

*Participation in this event is dependent on qualifying and players' level of interest and commitment; interest level will be gauged during try-outs and through May/June.

Fall Tournaments TBD
Possibilities include: Stall Fall (Guelph), Harvest (Peterborough), Goosebowl (Kingston)

If you are interested in coming to the tryout please use the contact link (upper right corner) to send an email so we can get an idea of the level of interest . Hope to see you soon.

New for Kingston Ultimate 2015

Posted by Joel on February 13, 2015

If you've ever thought about trying to bring your ultimate game to the next level, this summer will give you lots of opportunities.

Local 613, a touring co-ed team (that came 3rd at Canadian Nationals last year) is opening up the roster this summer by having open tryouts for the team. The hope is to carry around 30 people and have an A and B squad that will practice together. The B squad will provide an opportunity for players that want to develop their skills a great platform to do so. Practices will likely start the end of April. Keep an eye out early April for updates with more specifics.

For any men who are turning 33 (or older) this year, there will also be a masters team that is looking to have regular practices and go to one tournament in the summer. If you are interested please email gdmarsico@gmail.com.
