Fee Ultimate Clinics

June 28 / July 12

Posted by Joel on June 25, 2018

Awesome news sports fans!

We have made our two remaining individual clinics FREE! FREE! FREE! We do suggest a donation of $5-10 but we realize that time and money can be tight. At each clinic, athletes can choose to split into fundamental and advanced groups so there is something for all skill levels. These clinics are well-structured, and designed to give you lots of focused reps and a few new ways to think about the game. They are designed by Pete Galbraith, our local Team Canada Coach and run by 6-10 members of the Local613 touring team so there is lots of feedback opportunities and instruction from skilled athletes.

Who should come? You!
Who else? Your best friend, their partner, your coworker. If you play in Tier 4 or all the way up to Tier 1, this is for you. If you play in KSSC, this is for you. If your kid plays in the KU Youth or Junior League, this is for you.

Cups Tournament

Cups

Fundraiser

Posted by Joel on June 4, 2018

As part of their fundraising efforts to go to Nationals in BC this summer, Local 613 will be hosting a Cups tournament at the Mansion (volleyball court) this Wednesday, June 6, which will continue to Wednesday, June 14th if we have enough teams participating.  Teams comprised of 2 players will vie to be crowned the Cups Champions of KU (and will win a lovely prize).  There will be a round robin where each team will be guaranteed two games, followed by a playoff bracket. Games will start at 7:45pm for the people who are playing in the early KU game and 9pm for the people playing the the late KU game.  The schedule will be sent out at 4pm on Wednesday.

To register please click here;. The cost is 20/team. Please register by Wednesday at 2pm to allow us time to set the schedule.

Here is some information about the game:

Game Play: Flip to determine which team throws first.  Teams take position behind their respective goals (dowel and cup construction) then take turns trying to knock the cups off the opposing team's dowels by hitting the dowels with the frisbee. Should they succeed in knocking the cups to the ground, they get one point per cup. Three points are scored if a team manages to throw the frisbee between the dowels without touching either dowel. The team playing defence tries to catch any cup that has been knocked off before it hits the ground. If the cup is caught then no point is scored. The defence may not interfere with the path of the frisbee. Games are to 11 with teams changing sides at 6 points.

The details: Each player must play with a drink in one hand AT ALL TIMES (can be non-alcoholic). Half the challenge of the game comes from trying not to spill your drink while diving for the cups and dodging the disc.  As such all cup catches must be one handed and trapping the cup against your body is not allowed.  No blades or rollers are allowed (30 degree max angle).

Each team will be guaranteed two games in the round robin and one playoff bracket game.  All games will be time capped at 15 minutes.
