Games Canceled

Posted by Noah on June 30, 2010

Games scheduled for Wednesday June 30 are canceled because the city has closed the field at St. Lawrence "due to excessive water and some damage". There will be pick-up at Tindall from 7 to 11, and the BBQ at Elysium will take place as usual. The same slate of games will be rescheduled for the end of round 1.

The St. Lawrence field is tentatively scheduled to re-open Monday July 5, so pickup this Friday (July 2) is also canceled. We'll confirm that pickup Monday July 5 is on as soon as we hear anything.

Expiry Date: Sunday, July 4, 2010

University Ultimate Championships in Kingston

Posted by Noah on June 24, 2010

The Canadian Eastern University Ultimate Championships (CEUUC) and the Canadian University Ultimate Championships (CUUC) are both coming to Kingston this fall. The CEUUC will take place September 18-19, and the CUUC October 15-17.

This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of ultimate in Kingston and at Queen's. Tourism Kingston is organizing these events, but they're looking for help with the management of some details, etc. In particular, they'd like some people with some interest in and knowledge about ultimate to volunteer to help with:

If you're interested in being involved, please contact Cory Quaresma at sporttourism@kingstoncanada.com.

More About 5:30

Posted by Noah on June 17, 2010

We now officially have the St. Lawrence fields starting at 5:30 on Wednesday. However, the caretakers at St. Lawrence, who open the field for us, are very unhappy about people climbing the fence to get on the fields before they get there to open them up. Please don't climb the fence. The fields should be open by 5:30. If you arrive before that and want to warm up, please do so outside the fenced field.

The caretakers have always been nice about opening the gates a bit early, letting pickup drag on a bit after 8, etc. -- let's not make them hate us.

Note that we have the fields from 5:30 only on Wednesday -- pickup on Monday and Friday still starts at 6.

Update from Elysium

Posted by Noah on June 16, 2010

Mike at the Elysium asked us to pass this on to everyone:

"It has been the tradition for several years that the Ultimate league gets VIP access and treatment at Elixir Nightclub. Since we have changed things up this year and are now running a new operation, we would like to extend the same well known comfort and experience at our new location, Elysium Lounge and Nightclub (corner of Princess and Division). The deals have all stayed the same. The Wednesday night BBQ is provided to you free of charge every week regardless of weather (a bonus not included in the league fees, but provided from us as a sponsor of the league). So, as the spring weather is unpredictable, make it a point to rally as a team and meet with us at Elysium whether games are played or canceled due to rain or thunderstorms. Furthermore, we are putting together our promotional materials and as soon as our VIP cards are ready you will all receive one for further deals every night of the week at Elysium. We look forward to seeing you every week throughout the summer, rain or shine!"

Game On

Posted by Noah on June 16, 2010

The worst of the rain has passed, and games are on for tonight.

It looks like we're going to get a bit more rain at some point in the next couple of hours, but unless there's lightning, go ahead and play through it. It shouldn't last long.

Expiry Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2010

No Games Tonight, June 9

Posted by Noah on June 9, 2010

It's raining right now (4:15pm), there are showers forecast all evening, and the fields are already soaked, so we're going to have to postpone tonight's games. We'll reschedule the same match-ups for the end of round 1.

We can still use Tindall in the rain, so there will be pickup there at 7pm tonight. Also, there will still be a BBQ at Legendz tonight starting around 7:30.

Expiry Date: Wednesday, June 9, 2010

5:30pm at St. Lawrence Fields

Posted by Noah on June 3, 2010

Officially we have the fields at St. Lawrence from 6pm to 8pm -- 6pm is the earliest we can get access to the fields. This is why pick-up on Monday and Friday starts at 6.

However, because we want to use the fields for two sets of games, we start at 5:30 on Wednesdays. We've done this for the past three or four years, and no one has told us to stop. Unfortunately, though, they could decide to do so.

When you're playing at 5:30, please avoid climbing the fence to get on to the field early, and please be very nice to the security guard who comes to unlock the gate. Hopefully this will allow us to maintain the status quo so that we can continue to fit two sets of games in there.

May 26 Games Rescheduled

Posted by Noah on June 2, 2010

We've discarded the few results we had from before the lightning moved in on May 26, and rescheduled the same slate of games for July 14. Apologies to the three teams that played a full game and won, but given the number of games that were either not played or cut very short, this was our best solution.

Games On

Posted by Noah on June 2, 2010

As of 5pm, there's rain in the forecast, but we're going to try to get all the games in tonight. Remember that we can't use St. Lawrence fields if it's raining, but we can use Tindall, so if it starts raining after the St. Lawrence Games are all done, we'll go ahead with all games.

If there's lightning, all games are canceled, and you should pretty much get off the field ASAP.
