Ulti Tournament

Posted by Joel on August 17, 2008

It's the 6th Anniversary of the OCUA Spirit Ultimate Charity Tournament!

To date, the Spirit event has raised over $56,000 for local Ottawa charities!

Spirit 2008 will take place on Saturday September 13th at the Gloucester Hornets Nest. We are again planning a great day including a BBQ lunch, McAuslan Beer Garden, Daredevil Discs merchandizing & interactive disc games in the Funzone, music, first aid services, massage therapy and of course, lots of exciting prizes for our pledge winners!

Registration

Please visit www.ocua.ca/tournaments/spirit for all the details. The team registration fee is $300. The team fee includes a complimentary BBQ lunch (including beverage) and massage coupon, as well as a minimum of three games through the day.

Don't have a team? We'll find you one! Individual registration is $25.

Our Charities

This year's recipient charities are the Anxiety Disorders Association of Ontario, the Christopher Powell Carpe Diem Bursary, the Jennie James Depression Research Fund & Children At Risk.

Pledging & Prizes

We once again have some great prizes for collecting pledges! (prizes to be announced soon)

As pledge donations can significantly boost the overall funding we provide to our recipient charities, we encourage each team to raise a total minimum of $100 in pledges. And the more you collect the better chance you have at winning some of our cool prizes!

For more information about Spirit 2008, please visit www.ocua.ca/tournaments/spirit or E-mail catchthespirit@ocua.ca or call 613-236-4334.

I hope to see you all at Spirit 2008!

August 6 Results

Posted by Noah on August 6, 2008

Results from August 6 won't be counted for seeding for the playoffs (which start August 13). Most of the early games were cancelled due to lightning, and there's no good way to make the ladder system work without results from all games -- we can't lower the ranking of teams that didn't get a chance to play.

The schedule for the first round of the playoffs will be posted Thursday August 7.

schedule

Posted by Joel on July 9, 2008

the format for the summer schedule is as follows:

after the game on July 9th, teams are re-ranked based on their record in the first round robin

the bottom 2 teams of each Tier will switch with the top 2 teams from the Tier below it (ie. the two teams that finish 7 and 8 will switch with the two teams that finish 9 and 10; 15/16 switch with 17/18 and so on - # 1and 2, and 31 and 32 hold their ranking)

teams will then be split into 8 Tiers of 4 based on this new ranking - there will then be 3 more weeks of round robin play (July 16, 23, 30) where you play the other 3 teams in your new Tier

after this teams will be re-ranked again, the bottom team of each Tier will switch with the top team in the Tier below it

there will be one game using the ladder system on Aug 6th - 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, ...., 31 vs 32 - the winner of each game moves up a spot in the rankings and the loser moves down a spot

at this point the teams will once again be split into 4 Tiers of 8 teams (based on the final rankings from Aug 6th) - each tier will have a playoff with Quarters, Semis and Finals on Aug 13, 20, 27th respectively
